Mid-term progress reports were given to students February 7. Since half the nine weeks is over, students and parents need to make necessary adjustments to ensure students are passing or have the desired grade in each subject. Parents can call the school to schedule an appointment with a teacher if there are concerns.

Seniors received their class rank on February 8 as another senior event moves them closer to graduation. The big push now is to apply for as many scholarships as possible. Many new scholarships have been announced and are listed as follows:

The Carter’s Drug Store Scholarship is available for students who plan to seek a degree in pharmacy. A minimum 3.0 grade-point (GPA) is required. March 30 is the deadline.

The Danny Phillips Memorial Scholarship requires a 2.5 GPA, and the student must submit a creative writing such as a poem, short story, or essay. The deadline is April 2, 2007.

The Washington Street Church of Christ Scholarships are available for students who are a member of a church of Christ. The regular scholarship is for students attending any college or university. The Matt West Scholarship requires the students attend Lipscomb, Abilene, Harding, Freed Hardiman or Faulkner. Applications must be returned by April 10.

Lincoln County Vietnam Veterans of American Memorial Scholarship requires an essay on the Vietnam War, as well as an application. March 30 is the deadline.

Another scholarship with a March 30 deadline is the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club Scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, seniors must rank in the upper one-third of the class.

Guidelines and entry forms are available for the Better Business Bureau Student of Integrity Scholarship. Juniors and seniors may apply for this scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by March 7.

The Biology Department at Middle Tennessee State University awards three incoming Freshman Scholarships for students who plan to major in biology. Applications are available in guidance.

The Upper Cumberland Angus Association gives a scholarship for an entering freshman agriculture major at Tennessee Tech University. Applications must be returned to the university by April 1.

Tullahoma Vision Associates Scholarship is available for students who plan to major in any science field. Deadline is March 15, 2007.

Information is available in guidance about scholarships to Memphis College of Art, as well as their weekend workshops being held Saturday, February 24, and Saturday, March 31.

The Scientific Beauty Academy in Huntsville is offering a $1,000 scholarship for their 1500-clock-hour Basic Cosmetology Program and $500 for the 750-clock-hour program. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline is August 31, 2007.
